Call 911 for Emergency Care
When it’s a heart attack, severe injury or another life-threatening problem, call 911 or head to the nearest hospital emergency room. But when you or your child has a common ailment, such as an earache, fever, sore throat, flu symptoms or a minor injury, come to your neighborhood Baptist Medical Plaza.
Urgent Care
From the moment you arrive, we’re with you every step of the way.
Step 1. Registration
Registering is simple and hassle free. A representative will ask you for information, including your
address, phone number, emergency contact, employer and health
insurance. If you already have been a patient of Baptist Health
South Florida, we will ask you to verify the accuracy of the
information in our records. You also will be asked to sign a
consent form for your treatment, or for your child.
Step 2. Evaluation
A triage nurse will assess your medical condition by taking
your vital signs and medical history, and will evaluate your
symptoms to determine a priority level for you. It will not be
long before one of our highly skilled doctors will begin a more
thorough examination. Your waiting time depends on the severity
of your medical condition and other variables, but you can rest
assured that our priority is to help you feel better quickly.
It is our goal to treat you within two hours. Of course, if your
condition worsens while you are waiting, please let a nurse or
other staff member know immediately.
Step 3. Treatment
You will be taken to a treatment room where you will see
the attending physician. Based on your urgent care needs, your doctor
may order lab tests and diagnostic imaging studies. It may take a while
to get the test results, so please relax in the treatment room. Naturally,
you may want someone to keep you company, so we allow you to have one visitor in the
treatment room at any given time. Please ask other family members or friends
to remain in the waiting room where they will be more comfortable. If the
patient is a child, both parents are welcome.
Step 4. Continuation of care
Before you go home, you will be given discharge instructions
that you will need to follow to continue your care. Do not
hesitate to ask questions if there is something you do not
understand. We will be happy to review it with you. If you
are asked to make a follow-up appointment, please do so before
leaving. A Quality Assurance nurse may call you after your
visit to follow up with your care, so please be sure we have
your current phone number. You may call the Quality Assurance
Department at 786-596-4504 from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily with any questions.
