What to expect after surgery
Following your surgery, you will be brought to the Recovery Room where nurses will provide the special care required by patients who have received anesthesia. Upon your arrival, the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist will give a complete report on your surgery and your condition to the Recovery Room nurse.
While you are in the Recovery Room, specially trained nurses will closely monitor your condition. You may have blurred vision, a dry mouth or chills. Bandages are checked and vital signs are watched closely. You may still have an IV. If you hurt, ask the nurse for medication. Because of the anesthesia, you may not remember all that happens while you are in the Recovery Room.
Before you leave, you will receive instructions for what to do at home. If possible, have your companion listen to these instructions, too. Ask any questions you might have. A member of the Medical Arts Surgery Center team will call after your surgery to check how you are doing. Be sure to mention any problems you are having. Write down your questions or concerns and bring your list when you see your doctor for a follow-up visit.
